Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier

These 100,000 ton supercarriers form the backbone of the US Navy. Capable of carrying, launching and receiving 85 aircraft, it provides the US Navy with a mobile air-force. This results in the ultimate air-defense and strike capability for a navy. The carrier itself does not have any offensive weapons, but does carry some air-defense systems.

Being such an expensive asset, these carriers are always escorted by a handful of destroyers and cruisers for protection, thus forming a US Navy battle-group. One carrier battle-group is all it would take to overwhelm the armed forces of most countries, and the US Navy currently operates 11 such battle-groups.
