JF-17 Thunder

An aging fleet of obsolete fighters and the lack of affordable high-performance fighters in the international market prompted the Pakistani Air Force to collaborate with China on developing a new fighter. The result was the JF-17 Thunder (also known as FC-1 Fierce Dragon by the Chinese).

This single-engine fighter is capable of Mach 1.8, and finally provides the PAF with the ability to engage targets beyond the visual range. First public flight took place in September 2003, and delivery of production aircraft has begun in 2007.
